  • Urban Structures and Shelters

Nestled in the heart of the newly developed residential development Honeywood Estate, lies a little gem for the local community to appreciate. Contractor LD Total was awarded the POS 4 (Indigenous Garden and Planting to Lyon Road) Landscape and Irrigation contract and created amazing outdoor spaces, which not only show off an array of indigenous plants which attract the native birds and wildlife and fits in with the natural environment, but also created bespoke artworks and seating areas alike.

One of those artworks is a Feature Recycled Timber Log Spider Shade Shelter area with custom seating. The feature shelter was fabricated by DENMAC from heavy mild steel RHS with laser-cut shade aluminium panels fitted to each section. DENMAC sourced an old 4-metre long tree off-cut from a timber supplier. We then removed all the bark and used a chain saw to shape into the client’s design. The legs of the spider were fabricated from lengths of steel which were subsequently painted and epoxy fixed into the timber. The curved Modwood seating unit comprised steel framing with Modwood timber with timber battens fixed over.

The result is a highly unique shelter design which is sure to stand the test of time.
